Proenza Schouler
They are becoming one of my favourite designers
Spring 2011
A trip to Asia saw the duo designers perfect the tie dye technique called shibori a japanese technique which involves fabric being tied in tiny knots when dipped . They have an uncanny knack for balancing park avenue polish with down town.
Pre -Fall 2011
Taking their cues from riotously colourful classic Peruvian knits, the duo used ikat and tribal motifs in a robelike sweater coat with fringed pockets and gaucho-esque wide shorts. The result is a highly refined take on the pieces you see worn by college students of the bohemian persuasion.
Fall 2011
For Fall, inspired by a road trip they took to Santa Fe, where they were hipped to the beauty of Native American blankets, they hit the computer to design their own prints resulting in the geometric embroideries of long-sleeved jacquard sheath and the hand-painted panne velvet of dresses.
Amid all the clashing prints is a pair of comparatively understated dresses with bias cuts that spiraled up the body like a double helix. In fashion parlance, that's apparently called an "easy sew, tricky pattern." Whatever you call it, the results are impressive.
