Voila: girl meets dress

I posted a few weeks back about the website girl meets dress. I came across it, in an article about a year ago and cut out the feature to put on my notice board as I thought then, that the concept was fab. It was founded by Anna Bance in 2009 and the website lets you borrow ... party.... and return the most beautiful party dresses for a fee. Labels include Chloe, Marlene Birger and Diane von Fursenberg and they currently have 300 dresses to choose from but plan to double this by next year. We love the ethos behind girl meets dress here at Voila and interviewed Anna Bance to find out more .......

What is the concept behind GMD ? What inspired you to start up GMD ?

I was inspired to launch Girl Meets Dress in 2009 with my Co-Founder Xavier de Lecaros-Aquise after my previous roles in the fashion industry all involved both the lending and borrowing of the collections.

Girl Meets Dress is the leading online dress rental service where women can borrow the hottest designer dresses at up to 10% of the retail price. The ability to wear a different designer dress to every event and always look your best is a concept which many women dream of!

Imagine it, you can wear a bright yellow cocktail dress tonight and a full length ball gown for tomorrow night’s party, different crowd, different place, different you.

What is your favourite dress of the season you have at GMD?

Yes we have many celebrity clients which we dress for either personal appearances, TV shows or Fashion shoots.

What are your top 10 dress for different occasions ?

We have customers renting dresses for many MANY different occasions! From a black tie event which needs a floor length glamorous gown, to a wedding where they need a simple but chic day dress which transforms to a night look for dancing at the reception.

You can also rent a dress for a romantic dinner date, or a night out with friends, or maybe your birthday is coming up and you need a dress to be the centre of attention!

Can you buy a dress you hire if you fall in love with it ?

Many of our dresses are available for purchase, both brand new and pre-loved. Visit our SALE section to view the dresses we are currently selling. Prices will vary from dress to dress and will take into account its age and condition and its general availability.
